Do you behave like lovebirds?

Their name comes from the parrots' strong, monogamous pair bonding and the long periods which paired birds spend sitting together.  The term 'Lovebirds' is also used to describe a couple in the honeymoon phase of their relationship.  Or at any stage of their relationship when they are 'Loved Up'.

Like Lovebirds, generally when a couple meet they spend long periods of time together over the course of their relationship.  They enjoy doing things together and look forward to the next time they see each other.  They spend time thinking about the other when they are not together and they are usually faithful to one another through a monogamous bond.

Sadly, the average lifespan of a Lovebird is 10-20 years, although this could also be true for most human relationships where one simply stops loving the other and decides divorce is the only option.

Thinking back to when you first met your partner, what were the things that excited you about them and kept you longing to see them again?

Memory can be our best friend and our worst enemy.  We often forget the important moments in life especially as time passes by.  We have trouble remembering the little details, the things that we did for each other.  As we age and grow, we find ourselves longing for the kind of relationship we once had in the beginning.

Take a few moments now to sit and think of why your heart sang every time you thought of your partner.  Has your heart sang like that lately?  If not, make some time today to sit down and tell them about your early memories of your relationship.  Tell them why you fell in love with them in the first place and make an effort to reignite that song.

Russell and I had this conversation on Sunday night as we celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary.  We have been together for 11 years this year and can remember how we were with each other within that first year.  We often tell the story of how we met which is always received the same way every time.  With joy and amazement.

From a chance connection on an internet dating site to a face to face meeting a few weeks after, my initial thoughts were that we not not destined to be together.  That he would not want to sign up to be the 4th member of our little team as I already had children from a previous relationship and we may not be what he was looking for at that stage in his life.  How wrong was I?

11 years later he is a very big part of our team and I am so thankful for being brave enough to meet him that night.  Meeting someone for the first time is always daunting especially when you have been hurt before.

So, if you single and looking for love or in a relationship and looking to reignite your flame, remember to love yourself before you can love another.  Be comfortable in your own company before being in the company of others.  You will attract love when you are happy much like that of a magnet.

You can again be the Lovebirds you once were.  Below is a trailer of a NZ made film titled "Love Birds".  See if you can get your hands on a copy for your next Date Night.  Who doesn't love a good comedy.
